Preface
The following perspectives were cobbled together from thoughts about an upcoming watershed event in American history – the November 2008 national elections.
With deadlines looming, I didn't have time to write or polish the prose. But I wrote anyway, perhaps as a sort of therapy in anticipation of what's to come. So I offer these impromptu reflections “as is” to whomever might grace them with a reading or perusal. You can get to the bottom line in the last section - The Dawning of Socialist America.
Some who favor “liberal-progressive” notions or accept the firm truth of certain received opinions may be offended or think, “No, it can't be as you say, you exaggerate.”
But the outlook for American freedom, or what's left of it, isn't good. It would take a volume, perhaps several, to lay out the details.
In principle we've already lost our constitutional freedoms – for the most part they took flight when the New Deal U.S. Supreme Court trashed the notion of a constitutionally limited federal government of enumerated powers reined in by checks and balances – as the Framers had designed it.
Perhaps taking a cue from Cole Porter's 1934 New Deal era musical, the General Welfare Clause of the Constitution along with “necessary and proper” has been transformed into a license for “Anything Goes.”
We live in an era of Unlimited Government – of unrestrained federal power. The federal government can do virtually anything it wants – pass any law, impose any tax, spend any amount on any thing, harass and indict any citizen for any transgression, real or imagined, while we the people are increasingly unable to do anything to stop it.
Theft Under Color of Law
If I hold up someone on the street to pay for my grandmother's food or hospital bill, I get jailed. I've committed a crime. If the government with its implied threat of force effectively does the same thing – takes my money for “good purposes” such as for Barrack Obama's idea of “spreading the wealth around,” paying for “safety nets,” or “affordable housing” - it's called “compassion.”
It's also called socialism.
The recent mortgage-crisis “bailout”morass with its additional multiple tens of billions of earmark “pork” sweeteners represents in terms of size and scope possibly the single greatest theft in history – albeit under color of law. It reflects an unrestrained free-for-all of “tax, spend and elect,” the mutual pickpocketing by politicians of each others constituents in the guise of altruism for political power and financial self-enrichment.
Like the Hawaiian missionaries of old, Congressmen come to the Washington Beltway to do good, and often wind up doing very well indeed.
And so do others – those appointed to “plum” federal positions, for example. Franklin Raines, who recently headed Fannie Mae, made off with over 100 million in bonuses achieved by fraudulently inflating the value of the bundles of “subprime” mortgages made to unqualified buyers decreed by post-New Deal policies and imposed by federal coercion.
But unlike the disgraced executives paraded off in handcuffs and pilloried in the media, neither Raines nor his associates have been made to do the early morning “perp walk” before the TV cameras to be highlighted in the evening news as symbols of Corporate Greed.
Where's the outrage? Where's the special prosecutor? The indictments? Where's the mainstream media's ire and sanctimony? The Shame? Where's the investigation into Raines' ties to Obama and Obama's ties to Fannie Mae?
But one can't point a finger of blame in Raines' direction – or Obama's for that matter - because he's black. To do so would be “racist.”
Curiously, criticizing Obama is”racist” while supporting him is “not about race.”
With hush-hush mainstream media complicity, the Democrats continue to cover up their role in creating the subprime mortgage debacle and involvement with Fannie Mae.
An unrestrained Congress with President Bush's imprimatur has now added perhaps a trillion dollars to the national debt in proposing to fix what it, the government's New Deal legacy of “spreading the wealth” of home ownership to unqualified borrowers caused, while holding as per the usual the free market - “Wall St. greed”- responsible.
The problem - post-New Deal socialism - parades as the solution, while lbaming the victim, the free market and private wealth, as the villain. It's as though not only were the foxes claiming to guard the chickens, but also blaming them for the inevitable slaughter.
The mortgage mess is directly attributable to actions by the Democrat Party and their socialist activist allies like the Obama-connected urban voter-fraud organizing group ACORN.
Nevertheless, as the Leftist mainstream media controls the interpretive templates and forms Received Opinion and Conventional Wisdom, the free market, the Republicans and Bush, because he occupies the White House, all get the blame – regardless of their efforts to sound the alarm on Fannie Mae and the looming financial hazards of subprime loans.
When concerns were raised in a House committee hearing at the time, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters and other Democrats wouldn't hear of it, one describing the inquiry as “a political lynching of Franklin Raines” (code words for “racist”). The mortgage debacle takes root in the New Deal Democrat Party socialist takeover of America. An Obama presidency now threatens to radicalize and accelerate this process as never before.
The Second American Civil War
Every election cycle one hears the refrain “This is the most important election ever!”
Well, this is the most important election ever.
With the prospect of an Obama election and Democrat super majority in Congress, we are at the brink of an unstoppable slide if not plunge into a socialist abyss.
To get a whiff of what's in store for American freedom and prosperity under the rule of an Obama presidency and Democrat Party super majority in Congress, one need only reflect on Obama's long-standing alliances with radicals such as unrepentant former terrorist and '60's radical Bill Ayers (who plausibly ghost-wrote Obama's book Dreams of My Father).
The upcoming election is then another battle - perhaps the decisive battle - in the long war in America between socialism and freedom. Freedom in America is now on the verge of slipping away for good.
Except for the massive blood-letting of our first Civil War, we find ourselves in every respect in the midst of America's second civil war. As with the first, freedom is at stake, and freedom is the prize – if we could but win it back and this time keep it.
Despotism, Socialism and Freedom
Freedom means having control over your own life and property while according the same right to others in largely self-regulating systems of trade-offs – live-and-let-live framed in the rule of law equally and neutrally applied to all. My freedom begins where yours ends, and vice-versa. The old adage applies that “good fences make good neighbors.”
It's in the contexts of our interacting choices and behavior that law is needed and politics gets involved.
To work freedom requires certain ground rules, including the Golden Rule, basic traditional morality as encoded into the common law we inherited from England, common decency and common sense. Within such basic, minimal frameworks people can get along, be safe, and know what to expect. Government is an adjunct, not a premise.
In a free society the government has a monopoly of force limited by and administered according to the rule of law rather than the arbitrary rule of man. This concept is sometimes called due process. That way the law of the jungle is replaced with ordered liberty.
Having a monopoly of force means the government can protect little old ladies from thugs. For no matter how big and tough the thugs, the government is bigger and tougher than them all. But by the same token, government must limit itself, or it will inevitably take over.
Were the federal government not restrained by the Constitution and the rule of law, it might be able to round up and do away with organized crime within short order. The criminals wouldn't know what hit them. But in being so unrestrained it could also do the same to anyone coming falling into its disfavor.
In imperial Rome the emperors were gods. One enjoyed torturing slaves to death as a form of dinnertime entertainment. Humans lived and died at the pleasure of such gods.
Without constitutional limits and the restraints of the rule of law, government becomes the Thug-In-Chief. Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Saddam Hussein's gangster regime come to mind. Hussein's theft of Iraq's economy, rape rooms, torture chambers, and mass murders exemplify totally unrestrained government where, with the pretext of some self-rationalizing ideology of “social liberation” such as Marxism-Leninism, despotic rule can define its own morality to justify its crimes.
Unrestrained government justifies itself as its own end.
In a free society, as in sports, the players play according to the rules, the umpires referee disputes, but don't play too.
By contrast socialism resembles a situation where the umpires - the government – would not only referee the game, but play it as well. When you get to call the shots while playing the game, it's not hard to imagine who - as per the “living constitution principle” - will be bending and redefining the rules whenever convenient to make oneself the winner.
Socialism is the government ownership and control, direct and indirect, of a nation's economy and wealth.
In a socialist society the government not only calls the shots – what the economy and you individually can and can't do, it also in effect owns the players and the playing field. It sells the right to be a player, then banks the money – the wealth – the players' efforts (yours) have produced.
Socialism is both a secular religion and a strategy for gaining and keeping despotic political power.
Socialism is the political seizure and control of a nation's wealth and economy to promote certain utopian agendas while building monopoly political power – as the Democrat Party has been seeking since FDR's New Deal in the 1930's.
Socialism involves the dictatorial control of people's lives, whether by well-intentioned self-anointed elites who think they know better by virtue of their intelligence and academic training how we ought to live our lives, or totalitarian gangsters like Castro and Saddam Hussein or Venezuela's socialist thug dictator Hugo Chavez.
In socialism you don't own you – the government in its various guises as “community,” the “people,” the “village,” the “Cause,” “Democracy,” “Society” does. You get to do and keep what the government says you can based on various look-good, sound-good, do-good and feel-good utopian notions such as what is “fair,” “just,” “democratic,” “responsible, “sustainable,” “compassionate,” “sharing,” “diverse,” or “planet-friendly.”
In the 19th Century the Marx coined the famous phrase “From each according to his ability to each according to his need.”
In essence, by being rendered equally poor, we'll all be enriched – by making the rich poor we'll make the poor rich. “Spread the wealth.”
Socialism is the economics of “trickle up poverty.”
In various ways we are told that we must make sacrifices, with the result that we impoverish ourselves to promote the Greater Good.
Socialism is meant to drive various ideological and utopian agendas to make society more “fair,” “democratic,” “just,” and “equal.” “Policy,” “public sector,” “agendas,” “programs,” “planning,” “change,” “transforming,” and “reordering” - especially of individual priorities - are socialist-utopian watchwords based on a secular belief in mankind's rationalistic capacity for unending social “progress.”
When you hear these words, hang on to your pocket-book and watch out for your liberties, for you are about to be further relieved of both.
Socialism, the “Left,” masquerades as “liberal,” “democratic,” “progressive” and above all “compassionate.”
Gangster dictators like Castro and Hugo Chavez hawk the ideologies of socialism as masquerades for their thugacracies.
Marxism, Communism and Maoism are versions of socialism enforced by totalitarian control under cover of Reform (as in “agrarian reformers”) and Change. Hitler was also a socialist. “Nazi” means “national socialist.” Fascism is the other side of the communist coin. The one defines, socializes and controls individuals along national, ethnic and racial classes, the other according to wealth and labor. But the key operative word is “control” - control of all phases of life by government rather than by free individuals of themselves.
Socialist despotism finds roots in Jean-Jacques Rousseau's notion of the General Will, and the French Revolution, which imposed the General Will via The Terror and its handmaiden, the guillotine, to militantly enforce the purest possible realization of its ideals and agendas. Even a whiff of suspicious back-sliding could bring ones neck under the guillotine's blade.
Indeed, the French Revolution was a precursor to modern secular totalitarianism while giving birth to that role model of the modern heroic dictator – the Great Leader – Napoleon Bonaparte, whose regime, in the course of promoting La Gloire Nationale along with his own, led to the death of some two million souls.
Socialist morality is defined not in terms of the Golden Rule, the notion of the spiritual equality of souls created by God (Nature and Nature's God), traditional sources such as the Bible, and basic decency, but rather upon utopian visions.
What is moral is what is “fair” or “democratic” or promotes the “cause” or the “revolution” or implementation of the ideological agenda, be it “saving the planet” or “social justice.” Lying, stealing, cheating and even murdering is perfectly “moral” if it promotes the greater socialist-utopian Cause.
Like Plato's ideal forms, idealistic abstractions are more real than concrete. flesh-and-blood reality. If the latter doesn't conform to the former, it must be forced to do so – it must be “changed.”
Socialism appeals to the worst in people – to their lowest common and self-degrading denominators: fear, greed, envy and resentment, insecurity, dependency, ignorance, illiteracy, offense, guilt, gullibility, victimhood, excuse-mongering, laziness, pandering, sentimentality, symbolism without substance, feelgoodism and reward without effort, indifference or refusal to take responsibility for the consequences of ones actions, and the notion that one has a right to make others via government force pay for ones needs, real or imagined.
Socialism involves in part the Idea of Progress, a notion some say that derives from the Enlightenment where, in transcending God and superstition, humanity discovered that it can endlessly transcend itself by remaking, rationalizing and perfecting society according to social scientific principles.
Nietzsche's Zarathustra discovered that “God is dead,” Science and Humanity replaced God. Man could endlessly define and change his own reality, could create his own progressive heaven. This process would eventuate, some speculated, into a repetition of sameness, the Eternal Return of the Same – or Nothingness.
And so, it is thought, Zarathustra realized that in encountering the death of God modern finite progressive secular man eventually encounters the emptiness, the nothingness of his secular self in the Eternal Return of the sameness of change: the sameness of the pure Will to Power or “Will to Will” which eternally wills itself as its own self-positing project.
This Will to Power or "Will to Change" ultimately meant then more of the same – and nothing.
So to escape the sameness of his inner emptiness, secular man would necessarily keep doing more of the same in disguise: pursuing novelty in quest of meaning, like the an unending play on an addiction to then seek escape from the withdrawal symptoms in further varieties of the same addiction.
Following the beacon of Zarathustra's lamp, in 1935 German filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl released her documentary film Triumph of the Will . Considered to be a propaganda masterpiece and one of the greatest films ever, Triumph of the Will chronicles the rise, glory and power of Hitler's National Socialist Party.
Riefenstahl however did not have the opportunity to produce a sequel to depict how the Triumph of the Will, like the cycle of intoxication and withdrawal, inevitably self-destructed in its own self-created Goetterdaemmerung.
Heaven on Earth - The Socialist Agenda of Progressive Scarcity
Humans naturally aspire to transcend boundaries, to become more than what they are, do more than what they can, have more than what they have.
Socialism however often speaks of a different progressive self-transcendence, one involving the restraint of lifestyles, of “sacrifices” we must make, of the “sustainability” required to “save the planet” and implement the “social justice” outcome sameness.
Rather than the cosmos - natural and human - being a realm of unlimited potential, socialism curiously operates on the “zero sum game” premise that there's only so much to go around, requiring government to regulate and ration resources and goods to make their distribution “fair” and “equal.”
While the government is effectively unlimited in power and scope to impose social policies, individuals must increasingly be limited to serve socialism's ends. Government's purposes are the ends, the work and subservience of individuals the means to those ends.
Rationing, inevitable with the inefficiencies and inherent ignorance of command and control central planning, results in artificial scarcity and self-impoverishment.
In the old Soviet Union people lined up to get their alloted shares from government outlets. In England and Canada socialist medicine offers health care to some, while effectively denying it through long waiting times or lack of resources to others.
The average monthly wage in Marxist-socialist Cuba is reportedly around $15, double for the police.
Obama speaks of America having 3% of the world's population using 25% of the energy, and his crowds cheer. It matters not that America for decades has fed tens of millions around the world and saved countless others.
Socialism is based on the notion that people have material entitlements called “human rights” – to food, clothing, housing, health care, education, etc. - which oblige the government to take from some people to give to others while setting up bureaucracies to confiscate and transfer the wealth required to subsidize these entitlements.
Socialists in America are eager to interfere with small and corporate business freedom and impose wage caps on CEOs, though there is silence regarding the income of Hollywood Leftist and media elites, Move On.org billionaire contributor George Soros, or the families of Democrat politicians such as Harry Reid, the Kennedys, Nancy Pelosi, or Diane Feinstein.
In a free society people have the kind of rights enumerated in the Constitution – speech, assembly, religion, bear arms – true rights which don't require the government to take from some to give to others so that all might be materially equal or minimally subsidized.
Transform rights into entitlements and you eventually replace freedom with despotic socialism. “The government which can give you whatever you want is also the government which can take it all away.”
Beginning notably with FDR's New Deal, America has step-by-step moved from the premise of a government of limited and enumerated powers and guaranteed individual liberties to the New Deal socialist Democratic model of unlimited federal socialist power providing social insurance and material entitlements.
Some think there's a “moderate,” “middle-of-the-road,” bipartisan” or “centrist” way to combine freedom and socialism. But it never works out that way. Slice by slice, tax by regulation by bureaucracy, centrisim and bipartisanship result in less freedom and more government. Bipartisanship is to freedom what slow boiling is to the frog: inevitable death.
The socialist purpose of government in society is no longer to frame and protect individual liberty, but to provide people with what they supposedly need and want, and so to transform (remake) society according to various progressive-utopian notions of how people ought to live and what they should have.
Whatever deal the government has for you – new or old – you have no choice but to take it. You must buy from the government what it proposes to sell you at the price it dictates. You have no bargaining power, no freedom of choice, no options. Government makes the offer, you can't refuse.
In a pure socialist society you'd no longer be able to go to a Wal-Mart and put into your cart whatever you wanted. Instead you'd be standing in line at a Gov-Mart to purchase your alloted (fair) share with coupons and credits doled out by the government. To get more, assuming there'd be more to get, you'd have to fill out a form to justify the more you wanted while perhaps calling attention to yourself as a trouble-maker and malcontent.
Free-for-all Government
The notion of free-for-all government-providing material entitlements is incompatible with a free society. In effect, “free-for-all” means free for no one.
Socialism is the default denominator of a modern government which has lost its self-regulating and self-limiting bearings and so has become a free-for-all of factions voting themselves each others' money and favoritism while using the government's monopoly of force to enforce the takings.
“Free” in the socialist context means “free,” initially perhaps at someone else's expense, but ultimately at ones own. Every group has some group grievance, victimological or other exceptional reason supposedly entitling it to a forced transfer to it of other people's wealth. Eventually the free market becomes choked up with taxes, regulations and quotas to the point that everyone pays more and gets less – everyone except government, that profits and enlarges its power brokering all the exchanges and collecting “protection money” (campaign contributions, perks and pork) in the process.
Socialized medicine, as in Canada or England, is not “free.” In the process of paying more for less thanks to the lack of the competitive discipline of the free market. Canadians and the English pay for their coerced regimes both in higher taxes (because someone must pay – and the only source of wealth is the taxpayers) and diminished quality of services, or inability to get them at all.
Providing for “needs” obliges the government, as University of Chicago's constitutional scholar Richard Epstein has set forth in his Takings and numerous other writings, to make forced transfers. If certain public use needs (roads, bridges, harbors, school yards, military bases, etc.) serve all citizens equally, then the forced takings – eminent domain, taxing and spending – might be constitutionally justified and harmonized with the premises of a free society.
But where the takings are from some to give to others, or to promote “policy” – transfers from the Haves to the Have Nots, from Producers to Non-Producers – such forced takings are not equally applied to benefit all. Instead these takings are invariably premised on notions of “redressing” class divisions, conflicts and inequalities, leading to free-for-all political combat where groups – often labeled “special interests” - attempt to use government force to benefit themselves with subsidies and regulation at others' expense.
Examples include the five billion dollars or so of “Great Society” welfare transfers, student loans, tax subsidies for favored industries, districts and groups, and protectionistic import restrictions (penalizing consumers) – on sugar imports for example (lifting these import taxes would make ethanol biofuels cheaper), and special subsidies to social-control activist groups such as the Obama- and Bill Ayers-allied ACORN which, for some 30 years, has been involved in organizing extensive urban voter fraud.
As the current mortgage debacle illustrates, this process of combative wealth transfers has gotten out of control, with no one seemingly able to get a grip on it let alone know what's going on. It's like a free-for-all looting of a city where the police are unable to stop the theft or even know its happening sometimes literally under their feet.
Death By Government
Socialists intend to drag us, whether kicking and screaming or compliant – but by force if necessary, into their version of Heaven on Earth.
As Obama recently put it to Joe the Plumber, “we're going to spread the wealth around.”
Obama's Marxist-socialistic associations and predilections – he was mentored by '60's Marxist-socialist radicals such as Bill Ayers - promise to accelerate the socialist transformation of America. Obama calls it “neighborliness.”
It's not for nothing that “progressives” and socialists tend to admire authoritarian and dictators likes Stalin, Mao, Castro, Che Guevarro, and, most recently, Venezuela's socialist thug dictator Hugo Chavez.
To carry out the socialist agenda, force is invariably required. It necessarily involves the melding of policy with police powers. Policy becomes a matter of “public safety.” Public safety, of course, must be enforced by agents of the government's monopoly of force – the police.
Fully unleashed socialism in its Marxist-Maoist totalitarian forms, notably in the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and China, but also in North Korea and Pol Pot's killing fields, has murdered dozens of millions of souls deemed unfit to live or politically incorrect or offensive to the State.
The nihilism Zarathustra discovered in the soul of modern man culminates in cultures of death.
Leftist critics have pilloried Sarah Palin for keeping her Downs Syndrome baby. In the Illinois State Senate, Obama is said to have opposed a bill similar to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion This bill apparently would have offered protections for the aborted fetus who survives and becomes a living baby, but isn't timely clothed with the constitutional dignity and protections of personhood, and so is left to die on the OR tray unattended.
To bring its utopian abstractions to life, totalitarian socialism kills concrete, living, flesh-and-blood human beings. Boris Pasternak's novel Dr. Zhivago depicts the ideological landscapes of mass chaos, death and destruction the Bolshevik communists wreaked on post-WW I Russia.
Altogether, according to Professor R. J. Rummel in his book Death By Government, governments during the 20th Century murdered an estimated 170 million people. These democidal deaths are separate from deaths in combat. The number of corpses needed to comprise 170 million would, as Prof. Rummel estimates, laid out end to end span the distance some 80 times between Washington D.C. and Hawaii.
While not suggesting our own government is on the threshold of mass murdering its citizens, and acknowledging that there's a delicate balance between the need for national defense against terrorism v. constitutional limits, the federal government's menacing force and power are increasingly omnipresent in the nation.
On any one of a number of pretexts – typically drug-related - ninja-style federal “swat-team” storm trooper police can suddenly break into and ransack your home, carry away your property, immobilize you, and kill you under a pretext of resisting lawful authority.
On Justice Department Secretary Janet Reno's orders, April 22, 2000, federal police broke into a Miami-Dade home to grab the 5 year old refugee from Cuba, Elian Gonzalez, to capture and ship him back to the Cuba. One recalls the Pulitzer-prize winning photo showing a federal agent with a MP5 submachine gun pointed toward a terrified Elián and Donato Dalrymple, one of the fishermen who had rescued Elian from the Atlantic ocean, who was holding Elian.
One recalls the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Waco Texas siege of the Branch Davidian complex Reno ordered that resulted in a fire which burned to death 71 occupants, including 21 children and two pregnant women.
In Lufkin Texas two Secret Service Agents recently showed up at the home of Jessica Hughes for having allegedly made a threatening statement in a cell phone conversation with a Obama campaign volunteer who had called Jessica to ask if she would support Obama.
Jessica replied, “No, I don’t support him. Your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time.” Then Jessica hung up.
The agents showed up based on a (mis)quote from the Obama volunteer who quoted Jessica as saying, “I will never support Obama, and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.”
Jessica wrote later, “The fact that the volunteer lied, the fact that the Secret Service came to my house to question me about my thoughts and feelings and threaten to embarrass me to my neighbors and go to court if I didn’t cooperate is not the tragedy here.
“Because that girl on the phone doesn’t have the pull to send the Secret Service to my home. Someone high in the ranks of a campaign working for a man who may be the next President of the United States of America felt comfortable bringing the force of the Federal Government to bear on a private citizen on nothing but the word of a partisan volunteer.”
As San Diego's Roger Hedgecock notes:
“Taken together with the intimidation campaign against WGN Radio because it aired an interview about the Obama-Ayers connection, the use of local criminal prosecutors to intimidate TV stations in certain states to not run ads critical of Obama, and the use of race to rally black voters and shame white voters, the Obama campaign’s M.O. in Jessica’s case is a warning.”
“The pattern is unmistakable. The drumbeat of jackboots echoes now faintly, but persistently, in the fall breeze.” (http://www.rogerreport.com/)
America, The Evil Land
America was expressly founded on the idea of freedom – individual liberty framed in the rule of law.
Socialists hate freedom with a passion generally matched only by their hatred of God. Freedom obviates the need for socialism. Free, self-reliant and self-disciplined people don't need the “nanny state.” For this reason socialists at home and throughout the world hate an independent, strong and free America as the symbol and bulwark of freedom.
People whose minds and hearts are framed in religious principles and spiritual values don't need government to mediate their relationships or tell them how to live.
So socialists denounce America and its traditional values and faith at every opportunity as the major source of the world's problems, claiming, for example, that “imperialist” America was founded on racist and environmental oppression, that America is inherently racist, that America exploits the poor and minorities, that America unfairly uses up the world's resource while polluting the planet.
Not “God bless” America said Obama's pastor Rev. Wright, but “Goddamn America.”
Socialists propagandize that America is an evil country created for the unbridled exploitation of some by others.
In effect, socialists, including a broad swath of the Democrat Party, the national media, academics and intellectuals condemn America as the “real” terrorist nation – beating down the poor, downtrodden, oppressed, minority, women, “immigrants,” and any other group grievance constituency coming to the fore – all this in ironic contrast to people of every description from around the world doing whatever it takes, legally or otherwise, to break into our supposedly evil, oppressive land.
Socialism perverts the spiritual premise of human freedom into the socialist “right” of politically coerced material sameness, no matter the effort, or lack of it, to earn what one has to keep, to spend and to donate as one freely chooses.
Such echoes Zarathustra's discovery that at length modern progressive secular man' is in pursuit of the nihilism of “sameness.”
Socialism trades on the appealing idea that life's basic needs are or ought to be “free.”
Socialists can't prevail intellectually, so they respond with intimidation and character assassination. Joe the Plumber blew the whistle on Obama's “spread the wealth” socialism, so the mainstream media instantly sought to discredit him.
Criticizing Obama is “racist” It matters not whether his proposals may be ignorant and even dangerous.
Socialists pillory blunt, truthful criticism as “inciting violence”. They seek to intimidate and censor. Free speech is incompatible with socialism. It must not violate politically correct dogmas and premises, however “racist” and bigoted such premises may themselves be.
New Deal Dictatorial Powers
Some say that to win the Civil War President Lincoln awoke the sleeping giant of Federal government power.
The giant indeed rose up with the advent of FDR's New Deal planning, justified at the time by the need to do something about of the Great Depression.
Though typically blamed on the failures of capitalism and the free markets., the Great Depression more likely ensued from government's prior meddling with credit supplies and protectionism (Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act).
That the New Deal failed to do anything about the Depression, that the economy eventually came back to life on its own, is largely ignored by New Deal's apologists. That government is inherently incapable of producing wealth, but rather can only seize, spend and redistribute it, gets brushed under the table. At least “something was being done” they say, no matter how damaging long-term to American freedom and prosperity.
FDR's New Deal Supreme Court effectively dismantled the Framers' constitutional limits on government when it misinterpreted the Commerce Clause to allow the government to regulate virtually any activity conceivably impacting interstate commerce.
It's established that under the Spending Clause the federal government can spend on virtually whatever it wants.
In the 1942 Supreme Court New Deal case Wickard v. Filburn the Court held that the federal government could prevent a farmer from growing wheat on his own farm for his own use because in so doing the farmer would impact, however minimally, interstate commerce by not buying wheat on the market, reasoning that if many farmers grew wheat for themselves, a New Deal policy would be undermined.
The socialist New Deal policy was in effect more important than the farmer's constitutional and common sense liberties, and wiser than the dispersed, open-ended collective wisdom of the market place, where each would know best – and better than any bureaucracy - his own needs and capabilities and could best define and refine his own exchanges with others doing the same.
So, for example, the federal government now dictates what kind of toilet you can buy.
In a recent “energy” bill the federal government has outlawed the incandescent bulb – it will soon be phased out to be replaced by allegedly more “planet-friendly” mercury-based florescent substitutes (which will also be far more expensive and made overseas by American corporations such as GE enjoying a more favorable tax rate than available in America).
In the guise of protecting the environment and species supposedly endangered, Washington can control how you use your property to the point of rendering it useless and valueless. It can put farms and businesses out of business.
Today the the federal government has functionally limitless power over the US economy and its wealth. Virtually without constitutional constraint it can tax, spend and regulate our economy and wealth as it pleases – no longer limited by the rule of constitutional law and restrained, if at all, only by a political tug of war between “special interests” each seeking benefits at the others' expense.
We now have the arbitrary rule of government rather than the rule of law. We effectively only have the freedom politicians and government agents say we have.
If economic cases still get disputed in the courts, how often is it only matter of “how much” rather than “whether?” As a taxpayer you are in effect guilty until you can prove otherwise. Up against Washington's virtually unlimited resources, without the wealth of a Microsoft behind you, as Bill Gates eventually learned, as a defendant you have little chance.
Just now with the bailout bill Congress has apparently socialized the mortgage and financial industry. As one of its purposes the bill recites that the Secretary of the Treasury has the task to insure the economic welfare of the citizenry. In other words, following the socialistic New Deal philosophy, the government is to continue taxing profit and socializing risk in selected sectors and industries.
The servant has become the master.
While on a recent state visit to China, as though to say “what took him so long?” thug dictator Hugo Chavez – one who would know – recently remarked on Bush's signing of the bailout bill: “George Bush has become a socialist!”
The Socialist-Environmentalist Assault on Prosperity
The Democrat socialists and their environmentalist activist allies continue to block America's access to its vast oil and gas reserves, scaremongering unsuspecting folks into going along with bigger government with such eco-frauds as man-made global warming.
Remove the political and ideological barriers to accessing its own resources, foremost among them the notion of man-made global warming, and America could soon be independent of foreign fossil fuel sources.
In contrast, no matter the degree of political coercion, America will not for decades achieve energy independence by attempting to ram “alternative” and “renewable” energy technologies down our economic throats. One could cover the landscapes with solar and wind “alternatives,” and it couldn't replace fossil fuel energy production.
The one viable alternative to fossil fuels, nuclear energy, has long since been outlawed by environmentalist China Syndrome fear-mongering.
Make a lie big enough, it's said, and people will believe it, for how could it not be true?
Global warming is not about science. It's about politics and money - political extortion and funding.
Global warming is an example of an ideological belief that's more important and real than the realities. If you oppose it, you're a “denier,” someone to be vilified and punished if possible.
Man-made global warming, now established as incontrovertible Received Opinion, is a notion devoid of substantive scientific proof. It's promoted with convenient computer modeling, “scientists say” speculation, ceaseless media propagandizing, and money and politics to justify more “research,” taxes (“carbon” taxes are in Obama's offing) and regulations, including mandates to use “renewable” “alternatives” whose efficiencies have not proven themselves technologically or have been tested by free market disciplines.
Like the biofuels scam – for a scam it is which is increasing our cost of living - “renewables” invite vast subsidies and political favoritism under the guise of being “green” and “planet-friendly.”
CO2 comprises something like %0.38 (.0038) of the atmosphere – about four tenths of one percent. A relationship between human production of CO2 and climate change has not been proven.
Indeed, humans likely couldn't warm or cool the climate or otherwise change it no matter how hard they tried, no matter how many SUVs and Hummers people drove.
Since its creation the earth has been going through ceaseless ups and downs of climate change, from fireball earth to snowball earth and everything in between. In the middle ages the earth warmed up, permitting grape growing in England and farming in Greenland.
Then one decade sometime in the 13th Century it's thought things began to drastically cool off, initiating the “Little Ice Age.”
This Little Ice-Age” was plausibly still underway when Washington and his troops crossed the icy Delaware on Christmas Day, 1776, and probably was just ending when “The Night Before Christmas” was written earlier in the 19th Century.
As author Michael Crichton describes, climate is like a child, both are “complex systems,” almost impossible to predict. Predicting a complex system such as the earth's climate with all the innumerable factors, known and unknown, is beyond the powers if not imagination of either the most sophisticated computer or creative climatologist.
From the prologue of Crichton's Jurassic Park:
"You think man can destroy the planet? What intoxicating vanity. Let me tell you about our planet. Earth is four-and-a-half-billion-years-old. There's been life on it for nearly that long, 3.8 billion years. Bacteria first; later the first multicellular life, then the first complex creatures in the sea, on the land. Then finally the great sweeping ages of animals, the amphibians, the dinosaurs, at last the mammals, each one enduring millions on millions of years, great dynasties of creatures rising, flourishing, dying away -- all this against a background of continuous and violent upheaval. Mountain ranges thrust up, eroded away, cometary impacts, volcano eruptions, oceans rising and falling, whole continents moving, an endless, constant, violent change, colliding, buckling to make mountains over millions of years.
Earth has survived everything in its time. It will certainly survive us. If all the nuclear weapons in the world went off at once and all the plants, all the animals died and the earth was sizzling hot for a hundred thousand years, life would survive, somewhere: under the soil, frozen in Arctic ice. Sooner or later, when the planet was no longer inhospitable, life would spread again.
The evolutionary process would begin again. It might take a few billion years for life to regain its present variety. Of course, it would be very different from what it is now, but the earth would survive our folly, only we would not. If the ozone layer gets thinner, ultraviolet radiation sears the earth, so what? Ultraviolet radiation is good for life. It's powerful energy. It promotes mutation, change. Many forms of life will thrive with more UV radiation. Many others will die out.
Do you think this is the first time that's happened? Think about oxygen. Necessary for life now, but oxygen is actually a metabolic poison, a corrosive glass, like fluorine. When oxygen was first produced as a waste product by certain plant cells some three billion years ago, it created a crisis for all other life on earth. Those plants were polluting the environment, exhaling a lethal gas. Earth eventually had an atmosphere incompatible with life.
Nevertheless, life on earth took care of itself. In the thinking of the human being a hundred years is a long time. A hundred years ago we didn't have cars, airplanes, computers or vaccines. It was a whole different world, but to the earth, a hundred years is nothing. A million years is nothing. This planet lives and breathes on a much vaster scale. We can't imagine its slow and powerful rhythms, and we haven't got the humility to try. We've been residents here for the blink of an eye. If we're gone tomorrow, the earth will not miss us."
One hiccup from a volcano is likely to produce more pollution and “greenhouse” gases than humans could hope to match. Compared to nature, humans, as anyone who has lived through a hurricane will testify, are next to nothing.
Oil is the foundational commodity of our economy. From fuel to plastics to cosmetics to medicines it is an essential component or aspect of virtually every sector of the economy.
All the propaganda and Boone Pickens TV ads imaginable will not substitute for the scientific and technological fact that, other than nuclear energy, there are no viable “alternative” energy resources - “renewable” or otherwise – that can replace oil, gas and coal on any meaningful scale, nor will such likely occur for decades.
In sum, the coercive political agenda to curtail fossil fuel use and replace it with “alternatives” is bottom line, a further and highly effective effort by socialists to take over and control our freedom.
When science and technology freely and naturally evolve to the point of viably replacing fossil fuels, the free market will then bring on these alternatives with a dazzling speed and efficiency as to make a bureaucrat's and activist's head spin in wonder and confusion.
Demonizing Prosperity
Freedom to circulate oneself, ones money, goods and services is crucial to prosperity and growth.
So it's little wonder that as a further means of constraining Americans' freedom, socialists have long zeroed in on that great symbol and engine of American freedom, the American automobile.
Socialists ceaselessly demonize corporations – the engines of jobs, productivity and taxes – as the “greedy, and the “rich,” they who pay the bulk of taxes and create jobs and businesses - for never paying their “fair share,” no matter how many trillions they've been compelled to pour into bottomless government coffers.
Socialists speak of “windfall” record profits enjoyed by consumer-gouging oil companies but never mention that the profit margins of these companies, which must spend enormous sums on equipment and research outlays, is about that of your local supermarket.
Like throwing sand in a smoothly functioning engine, socialists gum up the free-flow of market forces with a rentless assault of taxes, regulations and quotas to hem in and suck the fat from the Golden Goose that pays for it all.
The Assault on Sovereignty
The principle purpose and duty of a government having a monopoly of force in a free society is to defend individual liberty, including the integrity of a nation's borders.
Socialists think otherwise.
Given that America is inherently “imperialist” and “racist,” it certainly isn't worth defending – neither its liberties, its prosperity, or sovereignty – and indeed not its borders.
In Alabama's 5th Congressional District, Democratic candidate Parker Griffith puts it this way: "America's greatest enemy is America and its materialism. And I think that . . . we have nothing to fear from radical Islam. We have nothing to fear from any other religion if we are strong on our own beliefs. I don't fear radical Islam.” (quoted here: http://holgerawakens.blogspot.com/2008/10/alabama-democrat-congressional.html)
When 9-11 happened most thought that in such a large and porous country as America another terrorist attack on our soil was inevitable. Surely the terrorists would destroy another skyscraper, set off a dirty bomb, poison the water, kill thousands with anthrax, or blow up a utility plant, stadium or shopping mall.
It hasn't happened – yet.
For all his faults - real, perceived or imaginary - President Bush has received no credit for the fact that, remarkably enough, under his watch no further terrorist attacks have occurred on US soil since 9-11, despite the size of our landmass and porous borders.
Following best Beltway practices, no good deed goes unpunished. So for his success in staving off attacks at home and going after terrorism abroad, Bush is everywhere endlessly pilloried by Received Opinion and Conventional Wisdom.
The Democrat socialists and their mainstream media and academic allies have relentlessly accused Bush for a host of “war crime” and unconstitutional wrongs in overreaching a Constitution these Leftists ultimately regard as an obstacle to their own agendas.
But in one regard Bush, along with “go along, get-along” Republicans, seems to be in agreement with the socialist Democrats – keeping America's borders porous. Treacherously enough the federal government has failed, indeed even seemingly resisted, its constitutional duty to defend the borders against hoards of invading illegals.
America's southern borders have in some areas been overwhelmed or taken over by countless “undocumenteds,” mostly from the south, but by whatever means wherever they can get in.
(Many it turns out were able to buy homes under the Democrat Party agenda to spread the wealth via “little or no money down” subprime “affordable” housing – for example in Tom Tancredo's Colorado district alone it's been reported that over that over 10,000 houses being foreclosed were bought by illegal aliens).
In Los Angeles people fear for their safety and the inability of local government to deal with the alien gang takeover of whole barrios where the police fear to tread, while, on the Mexican side, the drug cartels, at war with each other and the Mexican government, are fomenting a civil war involving gruesome murder and terror on an unprecedented scale - very little of which gets reported in the mainstream media.
But socialists decry with their usual intimidation techniques and labels - “racist,” “anti-immigrant” - efforts to sound the alarm and stem this invasive, criminal assault on America's integrity and sovereignty.
Democrat socialists favor the invasion because it plausibly offers them legions of new ready-made pliable “motor-voter” and welfare constituents, Republicans presumably because it provides vast pools of cheap and dependable labor – doing the dirty and tough jobs that Americans supposedly won't do.
When Congress backed by President Bush attempted last year (2007) to pass an amnesty bill legalizing the illegals, an outcry arose from the grass-roots, swamping congressional switch-boards and email servers as never before. Congress backed off, showing a glimmer of hope for “We The People.” But doubtless the amnesty bill will be back – the political benefits of hoards of new, manipulable socialist constituents is too tempting.
A country which is unable to defend its sovereignty and protect its borders is a country at risk and in decline.
Fomenting Worry, Fear, Guilt and Scarcity
Beliefs define reality. Humans depend as much on frameworks of beliefs as animals do on instincts. Without frameworks a person cannot ultimately survive.
Socialists relentlessly sow the seeds of worry, fear, confusion and discontent while defining individuals in terms of aggrieved groups, like tribal warfare, continually pitted against each other.
Socialist power depends on fear and dependency. Socialist strategy includes a relentless assault on traditional American values and religious faith in which free Americans have framed their self-reliance and looked to for guidance in the personal lives.
Just as Revolution and Change are permanent features of the socialist society, so is racism-sexism-homophobia-bigotry-greed, requiring the ever militantly watchful socialist vanguards to be on the lookout, ready to pounce upon and exterminate the threats, but also requiring the populace to remain in a steady state of fear and suspicion, lest former capitalistic evils crawl out of their hiding places and bite them.
In her landmark post-WW II landmark work, Origins of Totalitarianism, German philosopher and emigree to the US Hannah Arendt set forth how totalitarian governments break down all relationships of private trust, even of parents to children, so that people will only be able to find trust, security and certitude with the government.
This breakdown includes an assault, even criminalization of private values and beliefs, especially, as in the Soviet Union and other communist lands, religious beliefs.
A free people framing its freedom in private religious frameworks doesn't need government for more than the limited purposes the Framers laid down, including the purpose to defend the liberty of personal belief.
Private faith and the self-reliance of individual liberty compete with the secular religion – the utopian ideology – of socialism. Inevitably the two cannot co-exist as a governing force and philosophy. Inevitably they will be at war.
To achieve power, then, socialists must undermine faith and freedom as the basis of self-reliance, and the trust people have in their everyday realities and relationships.
So socialists assault and strive to replace the spiritual beliefs and frameworks of a free people with their ideological-secular utopian belief systems.
Socialists believe neither in limited constitutional government nor God. God, the Constitution and self-reliant individual liberty are obstacles to socialist Democrat unlimited power. God is Government - The Great Leader, the socialist elites its priests, capitalists the devils, people the grist for socialist ideological mills.
America's Media Guilt
Bad news for America is good news for socialists: worry, uncertainty, discontent, unease, fear, anger, suspicion all undermine self-reliance while fostering confusion and dependency.
Beyond the notion that only bad news sells, the mainstream media propagates without end scenarios of worry, conflict and discontent. Despite all progress, America is still “racist.” America's successes are “unfair.” Despite decades of prosperity following the Reagan and Bush tax cuts, too many it's claimed, are allowed to “fall through the cracks,” or else are not “paying their fair share.” The glass is always half-full, if that. America is guilty, you are guilty.
While you stuff yourself with turkey and trimmings on Thanksgiving Day the local media may feature scenes of bedraggled souls getting a meal at homeless shelters. At Christmas time the poor lack the means to buy presents for their children. How could this happen? America has failed. You are guilty.
So, for example, the socialist media template finds that we are defeated in Iraq when we are not, that a “crisis” of global warming is impending if we don't “act now before it's too late.” Though none of this is true, we are told that we must reign in our lifestyles in favor of scarcity and rationing – we must become “sustainable” - because we lack the energy resources we need, when we in fact have an abundance of them.
We are guilty of exploiting The Planet, the biggest victim of them all.
The universe is virtually an infinite place with infinite resources. A free people of “ordinary people doing extraordinary things” applying its talents and energies to the potentially available resources at hand does not have to reign in its lifestyles or ambitions and settle for less. That is not the way of the human spirit or what America promised to be and became.
But it's what socialists want in order to confirm their ideological religion and cement their power. Therefore, you are guilty.
Obama – The Dawning of Socialist America
The mainstream media with its plethora of push polls showing the election to be over before it's over is on a full court press to dishearten McCain's supporters. Indeed, the media, whose minions famously attended journalism school “to make a difference,” who, according to an Investor's Business Daily survey contributed to Democrats in a ratio of about 100-1 over Republicans, can scarcely contain themselves in eager anticipation of the dawning of Obama's socialist Heaven on Earth.
But the prospect of this Heaven on Earth in America portends a regime that will make even the “misery-index” years of the Jimmy Carter era seem “heavenly” by comparison.
With super majorities in Congress Obama will set about to radically remake America along socialist lines in order to “spread the wealth.”
Obama's Democrat Party socialism is a deliberate recipe for American decline, defeat and subservience to United Nations global socialism.
The “Change” Obama declaims is a foreboding of the politically coerced transformation of our free-market “capitalist” America into a socialist state. It may presage the promised-land Heaven on Earth for 60's radicals like Obama's ex-weatherman terrorist ally Bill Ayers, but a Hell on Earth for those who love freedom and the prosperity freedom brings.
You will make less and get to keep less of it. You will have less freedom to dispose over what's yours and less ability to do as you choose. You will be less able to do the things you once could, for either you won't be able to afford it, or it will be regulated, curtailed, or prohibited.
“Spread the wealth” means not having more than your “fair share.” Fair share is what socialists deem you need, the rest of what you gain through your success is more than you need, and therefore should be available to government to “spread” to others who need it more than you.
Tax cuts will be revoked, higher tax rates imposed. The 55% “soak the rich” inheritance tax scheme will return, preventing small business owners from passing their family business or farm on to their descendants.
National “one-size-fits-all” health care will be decreed – socialists' long dreamed-of federal socialized medicine takeover of America's health care industry will become reality and nightmare.
The offshore drilling ban will be reinstated – Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (NV) has promised so.
America's vast reserves of oil, gas and coal will remain untapped. Energy cost increases will follow. Utility bills will continue going up. Higher gas pump prices will return. Higher energy costs will result in higher food and consumer good prices with less disposable income to purchase these goods.
The poor, women and minorities, as the phrase goes, “will be hardest hit.”
Accelerated wealth transfers will be made to so-called “community” groups such as the urban community voter-fraud organizing ACORN. In the name of helping the “poor,” these organizers of the poor will further enrich themselves with government largesse earmarked in congressional legislation.
Obama's proposed Global Poverty UN Tax awaits to subsidize similar socialistic community organizers overseas. This tax is meant to follow from the “Millennium Development Goals” as the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).
“In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning “small arms and light weapons” and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.” http://www.nationalledger.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=22&num=18845
The nation's financial industry will be further nationalized beyond the mortgage bailout “fix.”
As one commentator quipped, before too long you'll be be buying a US Car with money borrowed from a US Bank and fueled with gasoline from a US Oil gas station. You'll get your no-money down mortgage (if you qualify as one of the “poor”) from that US Bank. If you renege on your mortgage, it'll be reduced to “equalize” your need and so be subsidized by others, otherwise you'll be subsidizing those who can't pay enough by “sacrificing” more from your paycheck. It's called “Neighborliness.”
Freedom of speech will be further curtailed. Socialism can't tolerate criticism and so seeks to snuff it out by whatever means.
Democrat-socialist legislators will attempt to extend politically correct campus speech codes and “hate speech” doctrines to mainstream America. If you publicly disagree with some “alternative” sexual lifestyle agenda or a certain theocratic ideology, you may eventually find yourself, as happened recently to author Mark Steyn in British Columbia, under indictment.
Nancy Pelosi has promised to reimpose the Fairness Doctrine, suspended by the Reagan administration, in order to shut down conservative talk radio. Unable to compete in the market place of ideas against freedom-oriented thinking, analysis and factual discussions otherwise glossed over or covered up by the Leftist mainstream media monopoly, the socialist Democrat Obama Regime will seek “balance” by using government force to shut down opposition voices.
As Joe the Plumber quickly experienced, calling Obama's “spread the wealth” idea for what it is – socialism – can bring on the ridicule and instant character assassination of the mainstream “drive-by” media. Or, as Jessica Hughes in Lufkin Texas discovered, a surprise visit from the Secret Service.
It turns out that, “horrible to say,” in some jurisdiction or other Joe doesn't have a plumbing license, and, worse, there's a tax lien against him. The media also pointed out that he goes by his middle name rather than his first name, Samuel – which sounds less blue-collar and so less plumber-like? Perhaps in that regard the media meant that Joe should emulate Obama who goes by his first name, Barrack, rather than by his middle name, Hussein.
Upshot: attack Joe's character and so, on that basis, discredit his ideas.
In contrast to digging up dirt on Joe, the Leftist mainstream media systematically covers up Obama's deep and formative relationships to anti-freedom Marxist-socialist radicals such as Bill Ayers.
Following the agenda of Bill Ayers, the Department of Education will head up public (government) school socialist education “reforms” inspired by similar reforms in Venezuela.
“With [anti-American Venezuelan despot Hugo] Chavez at his side, Ayers voiced his support for "the political educational reforms under way here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution. . . . I look forward to seeing how . . . all of you continue to overcome the failures of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane."
Ayers told the great humanitarian Chavez: "Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions large and small. La educacion es revolucion." It is that form of socialist revolution that Ayers, and Obama, have worked to bring to America.” [quoted from Cliff May, October 10, 2008, NRO, http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ZTRjZDA5ZDEyMDE0MjYwMjliNzZkMmE5ZjE5ODY3NDE=.]
Whatever the climate trend (currently cooler), global warming “carbon footprint” taxes of American industry are coming. Carbon outputs will be curtailed, rationed and taxed. America's productivity and standard of living will suffer. Jobs will be lost, scarcity increased.
The middle-class Obama claims to want to benefit will be hardest hit, along with, needless to say, Women, Minorities and The Poor.
Amnesty will be granted to an estimated 20 million illegal aliens who will then be legally eligible for welfare and other government benefits.
Obama will appoint socialist-leftist-Marxist jurists to the Federal bench – two to three new such justices will sit on the U.S. Supreme Court, numerous others will replace retiring Carter-era judges on the federal appellate and district benches, and so further radicalize and judicially seal the “living constitution” implementation of federal socialist power in America.
Obama will undertake to diminish Americans' and America's ability to defend itself.
As socialists in other lands before him, Obama and his socialist allies will find ways to impair if not outlaw Second Amendment private gun ownership – the first line response of a free people's self-reliant self-defense. The new socialist-aligned U.S. Supreme Court majority will revisit a Second Amendment case and discover that, remarkably enough, the Second Amendment all along didn't mean what we had thought it meant since the constitutional founding – that the citizens individually have a right to privately own and bear arms.
Obama has promised to drastically curtail further development of our military technologies.
The U.S. military will be demoralized. Our ability to defend our freedom at home and abroad will be greatly impaired.
According to Obama's Vice-President pick Joe Biden, October 20, 2008:
"Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barrack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America," Biden was quoted telling a fundraiser in Seattle on Sunday. "Remember I said it standing here, if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."
Just in time for a Venezuelan Missile Crisis?
All this and much more awaits on the dawning of Obama's Spread-the-Wealthocracy come Wednesday, November 5, 2008, and withal the twilight of American freedom.
